Corotec, a supplier of plasma and corona treatment systems, has announced its Plasma-Jet corona treating system for 3D products has achieved CE certification for sale into Europe.

CE certification indicates Plasma-Jet meets European health, safety and environmental protection standards. Plasma-Jet eliminates the potential hazards of open-flame treatment, chemical surface preparation and sanding techniques. An optional alarm system continuously monitors the operation of each discharge head, as well. It will alert operators to the functions of blower power and speed, head selection and output power.

Unlike corona treatment, Plasma-Jet enables greater control and geometrical flexibility, allowing engineers to tune gas chemistry, power density and exposure time to achieve specific surface functionalities on flat substrates and complex 3D parts. This precision supports stronger, more consistent adhesion, access to recesses/edges that web-based corona can’t reach, and repeatable, recipe-driven results with closed-loop monitoring.

By-products and thermal load are also controllable, making plasma ideal when application-specific chemistry, part-to-part uniformity or non-web geometries matter. Plasma-Jet technology provides the most powerful and flexible way to improve the bonding of inks, adhesives, and coatings on difficult-to-treat surfaces, the company says.

Because it discharges very little heat, Plasma-Jet treats sensitive materials like light films without distortion. Plus, its fast line speeds – even when treating parts with complex geometries – allow high-volume production with the surface adhesion required for:

  • Caps and closures
  • Painting and decorating
  • Cups and containers
  • Consumer products
  • Extruded pipe, tubing, profiles
  • Medical and healthcare products
  • Electrical/electronic components

Plasma-Jet excels at direct printing, pad printing, hot stamping and laminating, too.
